Weekend Watch: Rookies, Code Blue

I didn’t have time this weekend to watch much, but I managed to squeeze in the last two episodes of Rookies on Thursday and the last two episodes of Code Blue today. So what’s the verdict?

I think Rookies was one of the better shows of the spring season. It’s a fairly solid teacher-student drama that separates itself from similar dramas with its baseball emphasis. I definitely like Hayato Ichihara here, though I found some of the supporting cast annoying. And was it really necessary to do a close-up of each team member whenever something happened? But I’m still looking forward to continuing the story with the upcoming special and movie.

As for Code Blue, I found the ending to be satisfying. Since the show is really about a group of young men and women struggling with the meaning of being a doctor, I liked that it never really got too preachy or idealistic. I’m also quite happy there was no attempt at pairing Yamapi with any of the female cast, as a romantic storyline would probably have ruined the show for me. In any case, this is another series with a special episode I’ll be waiting for.

What’s next? I have The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and the HERO movie lined up for next weekend. In terms of dramas, I also still have to finish off Yasuko to Kenji, Tomorrow, and Seigi no Mikata. I’m curious about 33pun Tantei but haven’t gotten around to it yet. And is Maou any good?

Is Maou any good? Heck yeah it is good. In fact I would say it was the best drama of the Summer season. 33 pun Tantei is hilarious ( in my opinion) but don’t expect a continuous story throughout the episodes as each one is a different “case”

I enjoyed Maou immensely, partially due to being a huge fan of Ikuta Toma and immensely curious at Ohno Satoshi’s ability to act beyond random movies [and with only one butai out, which the subs came out for after Maou started airing]. Maou was pretty great, I just finished it the day before yesterday.

Rookies was defitnaly one of the best drama’s i’ve seen, dropped Maou because i couldn’t bare to watch it, i’m not so good watching at drama’s that has an specific grudge in it like Maou did, it was good it’s just me that i dropped it. also I do not appreciate Johnny’s Entertainment that much, because their are allot of good actors out their, and it seems to me those good actors are only talked about only when the fans really think they are good!. i don’t Hate Johnny’s but i don’t appreciate it that easy.

33pun Tantei was too silly for me, but I liked Maou. I hadn’t watched the Korean one it was based on, so the story was a surprise for me. I thought Ohno and Ikuta Toma were quite good. I also liked the lightning and the music for this drama a lot. I thought it was better than Code Blue which in my opinion only picked up in the last couple of episodes.

Maou is an exception. The guy is really talented and has never had a chance to showcase his acting talent beside on stageplays.

I guess people just tend to think they (johnny’s talents) “have it all good” but half of the audience/entertainment followers automatically brand them as lesser talents by generalizing them as “stereotypical jyanis”. Well.. some of those hardworking boys really are genuinely talented not just because the fans say so.
